Protagonist Object Show
Chapter 15 voting |
(contains spoilers for the latest chapter) (latest chapter may not be on all platforms yet) |
Protagonist Object Show, or just ProtOS, is a comic I decided to start making one day at like 2am. As of uh right now I've decided it's weekly. It releases on fridays now.
I'm hosting it in various locations. You can read it for free in any/all of these places, so just pick your preferred reading experience.
- Read it on cubari (recommended)
- pros: best reading experience on mobile or desktop, you might get chapters early, lossless
- cons: no voting link (you have to return here to vote), you need to play with the settings a little (scroll down on this page), and the url is a little scary-looking to onlookers. don't load this site on a school/work computer it contains a keyword that your principal/boss won't be happy about
- Read it on webtoon
- pros: RSS feed, if you already use webtoon congrats
- cons: lossy compression, no voting link, it's vertical
- Read it on twitter
- pros: limited horizontal swiping on mobile
- cons: lossy compression, chapter nav is miserable, you have to go on twitter, can't schedule posts so you might get chapters late
Read it on tumblrthey deleted my blog???- i didn't get an email, nothing!
- just can't log in. it takes my password and then refreshes the logged out page
- ??????
- ok
- update: even though my account doesnt exist theyre still sending me emails and i cant unsubscribe
- Read it on patreon
- pros: lossless
- cons: worst reading experience, terrible web design, the pages load really slow (this is a problem with lossless images but cubari preloads all pages of a chapter instead of serving them one at a time), sometimes I forget to make them publicly viewable

This was the best online reader I could find for the way I've formatted ProtOS. And it's great! But it's a little scary.
If you're reading on mobile, the default settings should be fine. But if you're on desktop, consider the "2-page layout, odd" option pictured nearby, and more importantly change the view mode to "limit" "all", which is sometimes but not always the default.
If the site asks you to switch to webtoon mode, say no. Unless you prefer that.
"What's the difference between '2-page layout' and '2-page layout, odd'", you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked! Basically, the first page is meant to be a cover page, and it's supposed to be on the right. But that means if you view it with a normal 2-page layout, you're presented with the front and back of a piece of paper, instead of the left and right sides of two pieces of paper, which is how books are presented. So, if you do 'odd', it makes the first page be solo, but then the rest of the pages displayed as two pages side by side. Kind of like opening a book, and then seeing the back cover when you get to the patrons! Pretty cool, right? Anyway, if it's working properly, you should be able to see a thicker margin dividing the middle of the two pages (starting with chapter 2) and never see a title page at the same time as a comic page.
I probably didn't need to write that all up. But, you know, I like to think it's better to tell people why I'm asking them to click on buttons! Otherwise, they're either blindly listening to me or ignoring me because they think I'm being needlessly particular. And neither of those are ideal. Even if in the end you decide I'm being needlessly particular, at least I attempted to show you why I'm being needlessly particular!
